Automotive Journalists Association Of Canada Honors Focus ST, Cadillac ATS At Car of the Year Awards

Hosting its annual week-long Test Fest, the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada has announced its picks for Car of the Year in 11 categories with the Cadillac ATS and Ford Focus ST, among others, taking awards.

Starting off with the Ford Focus EV, the American automaker’s electric vehicle took home Best New City Car honors.

Joining the Ford Focus EV is the Ford Escape, which was awarded the best SUV/CUV under $35,000. Surprisingly in the Sports Performance category under $50,000, the Ford Focus ST beat out 10 other sports cars, including the Scion FR-S, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and Volkswagen Golf R. In the Small Car under $21,000 category, the Mazda3 was the winner, while the Hyundai Elantra GT got the nod in the Small car over $21,000 category.

In the Family Sedan class, the Honda Accord was named best under $30,000. The Ford Fusion Hybrid was top Family Sedan over $30,000. Heading on over to the Luxury category, the Cadillac ATS beat out the BMW 3-Series for best Luxury Car in Canada. As for the Prestige Performance category, the Porsche 911 gets the bragging rights. In addition, the Porsche Boxster won out in the Sports Performance over $50,000 category.

Lastly, the Best SUV/CUV over $35,000 award went to the Hyundai Santa Fe.

The finalists in each category will now be evaluated to determine the overall Canadian Car of the Year, which will be announced at the Canadian International Auto show in February.
